Manchester City and Liverpool will do battle for the Community Shield trophy on Saturday afternoon.

England’s two best teams lock horns at Wembley Stadium and it’s the first time they’ve met in the fixture since 2019.

On that day in London, Pep Guardiola’s side eventually emerged victorious after the game went to penalties.

City won the shootout 5-4, Gabriel Jesus netting the decisive spot kick after Gini Wijnaldum’s miss from 12 yards.

The Citizens were just inches away from defeat in the 2019 Community Shield, though.

In second half stoppage-time, Mohamed Salah thought he’d won the match. The Egyptian forward headed the ball over Claudio Bravo in the City goal after a bit of chaos inside the penalty area and it looked as if it would simply bounce over the line.

But Kyle Walker had other ideas…

From out of nowhere, the lightning-quick defender emerged and produced one of the best goal-line clearances we’ve ever seen.

Despite being just a few inches away from the line, Walker somehow managed to fire the ball up and over the crossbar with an insane display of athleticism.

Every single time we watch the footage below, we feel certain Salah will wheel away in celebration after putting his side 2-1 ahead, but it never happens.

Unreal, absolutely unreal.

For a couple of seconds, Liverpool fans must’ve thought they had the trophy in the bag after Joel Matip had cancelled out Raheem Sterling’s early opener.

But Walker broke their hearts, much like John Stones did during their epic encounter in January of 2019 at the Etihad Stadium.

That night in Manchester, Liverpool thought they had raced into a 1-0 lead after Stones smashed the ball into Ederson from close-range, only for the defender to make an astonishing recovery.

The ball was just 11 millimeters from crossing the line…

Had the ball gone over the line at that stage of the game, Liverpool may very well have gone on to win the 2018/19 Premier League title.

But it was City who managed to secure all three points thanks to a brilliant winning goal from Leroy Sane in the second half of proceedings.
