Jose Mourinho has been involved in his fair share of controversial moments during his time as a manager.

From calling Dele Alli ‘lazy’ in the Amazon Prime ‘All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur’ documentary to when he went ‘full-Mourinho’ celebrating Inter Milan’s 1-0 Champions League triumph over Barcelona.

The ‘Special One’ really is quite the character.

Yet, one of his greatest and funniest moments came during a 2-0 win over Manchester City while he was still in-office at Spurs.

A stunning strike from Steven Bergwijn and a cool finish from Heung-min Son saw the 59-year-old’s side take three points off City, who would go on to become Premier League champions that year.

But the match wasn’t without its controversy.

Serge Aurier brought down Sergio Aguero inside the box and while referee Mike Dean decided to play on, VAR overturned the decision and awarded a penalty to the visitors.

Ilkay Gundogan’s resulting spot-kick was saved by Hugo Lloris, but the goalkeeper then appeared to then take Raheem Sterling down inside the area, prompting another penalty appeal from Man City’s players.

VAR chose not award a penalty for the second challenge, much to the delight of Mourinho, who was seen smiling and walking with his assistant back towards the dug-out.

Upon taking their seats, his assistant then postures that Sterling, who had already been booked, should have been awarded a second yellow card for simulation, brandishing a fake card in front of the manager.

On realising this, the Portuguese hilariously flips a switch and jumps from his seat before furiously sprinting towards the fourth official to complain at why the referee didn’t award a foul against his side.

Ian Wright, who was commentating on the footage for BBC Match of the Day, captures the hilarious moment perfectly.

“His assistant starts winding him up about the yellow card,” Wright says.

“Now look at Jose. This is awesome, this is brilliant.

“I just love it. It’s his reaction, he goes from 0 to 10 in like two seconds.”

Take a look at the hilarious footage in the video below…

Spouting his anger at the decision to the fourth official, Mourinho isn’t done there and hilariously turns to pace down the touchline, shouting at the referee while waving a pretend card in the process.
