Manchester City will jump up to third place in the Premier League table if they beat Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday.
The game will be shown live on TNT Sports 1, kicking off at 12:30pm.
Man City (4-2-3-1): Ederson; Nunes, Khusanov, Dias, Gvardiol; Gonzalez, Kovacic; Foden, Marmoush, Grealish; Haaland
Man City will be five men short for Saturday’s clash, while the hosts are expected to miss just one player — their back-up goalkeeper Carlos Miguel.
John Stones suffered a thigh injury against Real Madrid in the Champions League last month, with Pep Guardiola expecting a “lengthy lay-off” for the England international.
Nathan Ake was forced off at half-time during Man City’s 3-1 win over Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup fifth round last week. The Dutchman had surgery on a fracture in his left foot and will miss an extended period of time.
Meanwhile, Oscar Bobb and Manuel Akanji are also set to miss a couple of months of action. Rodri was expected to be out until the end of the season after he ruptured his ACL last September.
However, Pep Guardiola revealed at the start of the month that the reigning Ballon d’Or winner could feature for Man City again before the Premier League concludes in May.
Although Erling Haaland has scored by far the most goals since arriving in the Premier League two and a half years ago (83), the division’s ‘Best Forward’ crown has not been given to the Norwegian as a formality in 2024-25.
Mohamed Salah leads the goalscoring in the Premier League right now, having netted 25 goals this season. As it stands, Alexander Isak (19) and Chris Wood (18) are competing with Haaland (20) for second spot.
The latter two meet this weekend, so let’s have a brief look at how their numbers in the Premier League match up this season.
Both players are tied on three assists, while Haaland has created five big chances compared to Wood’s three. The two-time Golden Boot winner has also completed 10 take-ons compared to Wood’s four. Haaland’s all-around game may eclipse his 33-year-old competitor, but the numbers show that Wood has been more clinical this season.
Haaland has taken almost double (97) the number of shots Wood has in 2024-25 (49). In fact, the Kiwi sits fourth in the top goalscorers chart, while having only attempted the 27th-most shots. Wood has also only missed 11 big chances compared to Haaland’s 17.
If Forest wish to retain their spot in third place on Saturday, Nuno Espirito Santo will need every ounce of his No.9’s ruthlessness in front of goal.
