Man City midfielder Rodri lauded the character of his team-mates and the impact of his side’s substitutes after beating Tottenham 2-0 to move top of the Premier League with just a game remaining.

Erling Haaland put City ahead on 51 minutes before substitute Jeremy Doku won a late penalty to give Haaland his second of the game.

The Citizens had to rely on substitute goalkeeper Stefan Ortega to make a fine one-on-one save from Heung-Min Son while a goal ahead, however, after Ederson was forced off with a head injury.

It means Pep Guardiola’s side are now two points ahead of Arsenal heading into their final game at home to West Ham, while the Gunners host Everton.

And Rodri praised the impact of the players off the bench in helping put their side on the verge of winning four Premier League titles in a row.

“It’s unbelievable for us, giving us the chance to fight again in the final game,” he told Sky Sports after the game.

“We know there is still one more game but today was incredible. It showed the character of the team.

“It wasn’t our best performance but we came here to win, that’s what we do.

“The mentality of these guys and the substitutions. I want to talk about the substitutes. Stefan saved us, Jeremy was unbelievable. Everybody was exceptional.

“I think we have the best striker in the world and today he made the difference. The team needed two goals, and Stefan was simply incredible. Outstanding saves.

“Let’s make history again, but we have one more effort.”
