Man City 'submit written bid' to Chelsea for Mateo Kovačić

Manchester City have submitted a £25m written bid to Chelsea for midfielder Mateo Kovačić, reports The Athletic on Tuesday.

City have reportedly already held talks with Kovačić, and the Croatian is understood to be keen on a move to the Premier League champions.

The 29-year-old has just one year remaining on his Chelsea contract, and City are hoping to do a cut-price deal as they look to revamp their midfield department over the summer.

City boss Pep Guardiola has reportedly admired Kovačić since the midfielder’s time at Real Madrid, whom he joined Chelsea from in an initial loan deal in 2019.

With uncertainty over the futures of İlkay Gündoğan and Bernardo Silva, Kovačić could prove to be a vital summer arrival at the Etihad Stadium if the two clubs can agree a fee.
