Man City planning to build new £10 million training facility | OneFootball

Manchester City have submitted plans for a £10 million purpose-built training facility for their women’s first team. If the application is successful, the Sky Blues hope to complete construction by 2025.

The facility will include a hydrotherapy pool and a gym, alongside an analysis space as the club looks to mirror the facilities on offer to their men’s team. The design of the new 17,000 square foot building will offer the club the option to expand the site as the team develops further.

The building will offer a private training area while still providing direct links to the wider City Football Academy campus. The development also houses the Joie Stadium, where Gareth Taylor’s side play the majority of their home fixtures.

Man City recently became the first women’s team to secure a commercial agreement for their stadium’s naming rights.

A new era for Man City

Speaking on the plans, the managing director of the women’s team, Charlotte O’Neill, said: “Over the past decade, our shared space at City Football Academy has been a huge asset to the team, providing unrivalled access to world-leading facilities and industry experts that have helped the team to adopt the club’s philosophies on and off the pitch and establish itself as a pioneer in the development of women’s football in this country. However, as the team evolves, so do their needs. That’s why we continue to invest in the right facilities at the right stage in the team’s journey.”

Manchester City captain Steph Houghton added: “I’ve been incredibly proud to call the City Football Academy home for the past 10 years and have seen first-hand how the integrated facilities we are a part of have contributed to the development of the women’s team. As we look to take the next step in our journey of developing the women’s game, it’s right that we now develop our own purpose-built home, at the heart of City Football Academy.”
