Napoli midfielder Jorginho could become one of two new recruits at Manchester City this summer as Pep Guardiola looks to strengthen his Premier League title winning team.

The Italian international is valued at around €55m and has previously been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United.

But according to various reports, it seems City are now in pole position to sign the deep-lying midfield anchorman and are hoping to have the transfer wrapped up before the World Cup kicks off in Russia on 14 June.

And according to Goal, the Blues are only planning to make two new signings this summer but are willing to spend big money on a new forward player – potentially Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé.

City could go back in for Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez – whom they failed to land in the January transfer window – and are also understood to have an interest in Chelsea’s Eden Hazard.

But having come close to signing Mbappé from Monaco last summer, the Etihad Stadium outfit would be willing to try their hand again if the opportunity presents itself this year.

The 19-year-old’s future could all depend on whether PSG fall foul of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations, or whether Neymar decides his future lies elsewhere this summer.

But if they are able to add players of the quality of Jorginho and Mbappé to an already strong squad before next season, the champions of England could be about to get a whole lot more fearsome.
