New signing suffers issue in win over Chelsea
Pep Guardiola was already without Rodri and Oscar Bobb for Sunday’s win at Chelsea, with a question mark over the Spanish midfielder’s comeback from a long summer break.
City then added Savinho to their list of worries after he limped off at Stamford Bridge.
However, they were able to hand Phil Foden a runout off the bench as Kyle Walker and John Stones joined the England man in the squad following their post-Euro 2024 breaks.
Guardiola left Rodri at home for City’s win at Chelsea after saying he had “no chance” of playing.
The midfielder last appeared in the Euro 2024 final, when a hamstring injury forced him off at half time.
But he is back in training and could be in contention for the visit of Ipswich, if the returns of Foden, Walker and Stones are anything to go by. They were on the bench against Chelsea, so Rodri could be in line for a similar comeback this coming weekend.
“He is in training,” Guardiola said last week. “I don’t know, I haven’t seen him yet. He feels good. We’ll have to see how he feels after training.”

His manager insisted post-game that the issue is not significant but nonetheless described it as a long-running problem that Savinho has contended with before.
“Some disturbance in the knee,” Guardiola explained.
“He said he knows perfectly why, he’s had it in the past. Apparently, it’s not a big, big problem. He will be ready for, hopefully, next Saturday.”

Norwegian winger Bobb has undergone surgery on a broken leg which has put the buffers on what looked like a promising start to the season.
“It was in the training session and unfortunately he had a big impact and is injured,” Guardiola told reporters last week.
“He will have surgery and hopefully he will be well and we welcome him back as soon as possible in three, four months.
“We are so sad for him, but not because he was making an incredible pre-season, because that doesn’t matter, when [the] injury is a long time it is a problem and we’re looking forward to seeing him again as soon as possible. A good recovery as quick as possible and that’s all.”
Potential return date: November/December 2024
