Narrow points difference between Rodri and Vinicius Jr. in Ballon d’Or voting revealed | OneFootball

Today, France Football has revealed that Rodri (28) defeated Vinicius Jr. (24) in the 2024 Ballon d’Or voting by 41 points. It represents one of the more narrow victories in the competition since the voting format changed in 2016.

However, it is not the smallest margin by which a winner has been decided. In 2019, Lionel Messi defeated Robert Lewandowski by the narrowest points total with the two players separated by only seven points.

Controversy in Ballon d’Or decision

There was some controversy this year with the Manchester City player winning the award over his Real Madrid rival. Real Madrid were reportedly “furious” and felt “disrespected” that their star player would miss out.

The Spanish club decided to boycott the award ceremony in anticipation that Vinicius would not collect the trophy, with the likes of Carlo Ancelotti, Florentino Pérez, Vinícius Jr., Jude Bellingham, Dani Carvajal, and Kylian Mbappé all remaining in the Spanish capital.
