Manchester City have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli from Chelsea.

The 33-year-old joins from City’s Premier League rivals on a one-year deal until June 2026, and follows the departure of former back-up goalkeeper Scott Carson.

“It’s an honour to sign for City,” Bettinelli said.

“I have admired from afar what this Club have achieved since Pep Guardiola arrived and now, I am excited to be a part of building on that success.

“I can’t wait to work with Pep, Xabi Mancisidor and the excellent goalkeepers already here and see their methods up close.

“Hopefully I can contribute in training, the dressing room and on the pitch as we look to win more silverware over the next year.”

Bettinelli becomes City’s second summer signing after the addition of Rayan Ait-Nouri.

City are also trying to secure the signings of Rayan Cherki from Lyon and Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan before the 7pm deadline on 10 June.

Bettinelli started his career at Fulham and went on to make more than 100 appearances for the Cottagers before leaving for Chelsea, where he made just one senior appearance across four seasons.

City director of football Hugo Viana said: “We’re really pleased that we’ll be adding Marcus to our squad this summer.

“He’s been in the Premier League for a long time and will bolster what is already a strong goalkeeping unit.

“His experience and mentality will hopefully complement our other senior goalkeepers while ensuring he’s always ready to perform when called upon.”

In a statement, Chelsea said: “The 33-year-old goalkeeper spent four seasons at Stamford Bridge and was involved in Chelsea squads that won the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup.

“Marcus was also instrumental in supporting the work of Chelsea Foundation across various projects, and deservedly received recognition at the CFC Awards 2025 in May when named as the men’s team PFA Community Champion.

“Marcus’ sole appearance for the first team came during the 2021/22 campaign. He started our FA Cup third-round tie against Chesterfield, which we won 5-1.

“We would like to thank Marcus for his efforts throughout his time with the club and wish him well as he begins a new chapter in his career.”
