Man City confirm agreement to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund
The 21-year-old has been one of the most in-demand talents in world football for the best part of a year, with every top side expressing an interest in signing Haaland this summer because of a bargain release clause written into his contract.
Initially, that clause was believed to be worth around £63m to Dortmund, but sources at City have confirmed the fee is a little lower than first thought.
Real Madrid were also in the mix to sign Haaland - others were interested too but unable to put together a financial package - but it became apparent in recent weeks that City had won the race to sign him. Indeed, after agreeing terms, Haaland was released by Dortmund so that he could undergo a medical and finalise his summer move.
Confirmation of the deal is now here, with City confirming in a statement on their official website that Haaland has signed on at the Etihad Stadium.
"Manchester City can confirm we have reached an agreement in principle with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of striker Erling Haaland to the Club on 1st July 2022," a short statement read.
"The transfer remains subject to the Club finalising terms with the player."
City will not pay Dortmund the full fee for Haaland at once, and as 90min previously reported, will instead stagger payments for the prolific Norwegian.
90min understands that Haaland has agreed five-year deal on a wage lower than that of current top earner Kevin De Bruyne, but his contract includes bonuses which can take him up towards the Belgian's salary.
Haaland will join up with Pep Guardiola's squad this summer alongside January signing Julian Alvarez, both of whom will bolster a forward line which is already one of the most potent in the Premier League.
