West Brom have handed the Spurs coach a clear ultimatum over becoming the new Baggies boss.
West Brom have informed Spurs first-team coach Ryan Mason that he has until Sunday evening to accept Albion's offer to become the club's new manager.
The 33-year-old has been linked with the vacant managerial role at The Hawthorns for a number of weeks.
It was revealed in early May that West Brom were willing to wait until after Tottenham's Europa League final, before pressing on in the hope of naming him as Tony Mowbray's successor.
Football Insider have today revealed that West Brom have issued Mason with a clear ultimatum: accept our job offer by Sunday evening (1 June), or we'll move on.
This update comes after they also claimed that the Spurs first-team coach was close to agreeing a deal to become the new Baggies boss on Friday, with talks now understood to be at an 'advanced' stage.
Today's report states that Mason is currently deciding whether to stay on as Ange Postecoglou's assistant coach in North London, or take his first steps into full-time management with the Championship side.
It's reported that Albion want a swift conclusion to this ongoing saga, and that should he reject their offer, other targets are believed to be in place in order to find Mowbray's replacement sooner rather than later.
Evidently, setting this deadline to become the new West Brom manager by the end of the weekend is a move for Albion to make.
It could snap Mason out of his decision-making stage, and ensure they have their boss of the future in place in plenty of time for the summer ahead.
Or, it could potentially scare him away, as this is obviously a big decision for the former midfielder to make, in what could be a real watershed moment in his coaching career.
However, in many respects, deploying this strategy should be seen as a win-win for West Brom, as either way, they're going to know where they stand in their managerial search by the end of the weekend.
The very last thing club owner Shilen Patel will want is a long, drawn-out process to find a new manager for his football club - one that could eat into precious pre-season and summer transfer window time.
By handing Mason this deadline, Albion are giving themselves the best chance to avoid that kind of situation from occurring, as 2025/26 is set to be a hugely important campaign for the club that they need to get right.
Their ninth-placed finish in the Championship in 2024/25 marked a frustrating step backwards from their fifth-placed finish in 2023/24, and for a club the size of West Brom, play-offs are always the minimum expectation in the second tier.
As such, Albion fans should take heart from this latest Ryan Mason update, as it surely shows that the club's hierarchy are under no illusions as to how important getting this next appointment right is.
