SC Heerenveen have lost Levi Smans for an extended period due to a serious knee injury, the club announced on Tuesday morning.
Smans had to be withdrawn early in the second half as his side drew 1-1 with FC Volendam. Following a challenge from Alex Plat, the 22-year-old midfielder fell awkwardly and has now sustained an injury to his left knee that will reportedly keep him sidelined for months.
The club wish Smans “much strength and a speedy recovery” after this rough start to the 2025/26 Eredivisie campaign. Last season, Smans developed into an undisputed starter at SC Heerenveen.
The attacking midfielder ultimately made 33 league appearances in his debut season with the club after joining from VVV-Venlo. He scored three goals and provided four assists, and even attracted interest from EFL clubs in England. This term looked to be off to a good start too, as he assisted Luuk Brouwers’ fourth-minute goal before Volendam eventually struck back with Ozan Kokcu just after the hour mark.
