Willem van Hanegem was dissatisfied with Anis Hadj Moussa’s performance against NAC Breda last weekend. The former player urged Robin van Persie in his column to grab the Algerian “by the ears.”
Feyenoord managed a relatively simply 2-0 victory over NAC on Saturday evening thanks to goals from Sem Steijn and Ayase Ueda. The Rotterdam side got the Eredivisie season off to a flying start as De Kuip’s atmosphere rippled.
While Hadj Moussa was the hero on Wednesday night in the Champions League qualifying match against Fenerbahçe (2-1), his performance was a shadow of that this weekend.
“What Hadj Moussa did against NAC on Saturday is simply not acceptable,” Van Hanegem said about the Feyenoord winger.
“He literally did everything by himself. Everything. He had no regard for his fellow players whatsoever. It was as if he had a huge mirror in front of him, so he could just look at himself. Van Persie acted like it wasn’t that bad, but you really have to hold this guy by the ears.
“Teammates are running themselves ragged, not getting the ball, and then watching him lose it.”
As VoetbalZone also explained, Ueda was one of those visibly frustrated with Hadj Moussa’s performance last Saturday. The Japanese striker was fed up with the winger’s selfishness in the closing stages and couldn’t suppress his frustration.
