Luke Williams has been relieved of his duties as Swansea City head coach amid a miserable run of form in 2025 for the Championship side.

As first called by BBC Sport Wales on Monday afternoon before being officially confirmed by the club, Williams has left Swansea.com Stadium in the wake of Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Stoke City.

The loss in the Potteries, which was Williams' final outing in charge of the side, came as Swansea's eighth defeat in just ten matches thus far in 2025.

Swansea approached the turn of the year just four points shy of a play-off spot but have suffered a string of alarming results, including heavy defeats to Portsmouth, Southampton, Norwich City and, most notably, bitter rivals Cardiff in January's edition of the south Wales derby.

Away from Swansea's struggling form, criticism from supporters also intensified pertaining to the sale of long-serving captain Matt Grimes to Coventry City, the side's failure to land a number of January targets and Williams' own reluctance to outright rule out speculation which had linked him with the then-vacant job at West Bromwich Albion in late December.

Swansea City part ways with Luke Williams

Williams joined Swansea from Notts County in January 2024 to replace Michael Duff, signing a three-and-a-half year contract.

The 43-year-old was initially popular with the Jack Army faithful and hit a real milestone in his relationship with supporters by leading the side to a 2-0 home victory over Cardiff in March of that year, but his first and only visit to the Welsh capital marked an extremely low ebb.

Following initial reports, Swansea officially confirmed Williams' departure, which has also seen assistant head coach Ryan Harley and first-team coach analyst George Lawtey leave alongside the former Notts County boss.

Alan Sheehan will now lead the side on an interim basis as Swansea amp up their search for Williams' successor.

Swansea City chairman Andy Coleman sends Luke Williams parting message

Swans chairman Andy Coleman has also revealed a statement on the decision to part ways with Williams after 13 months.

Coleman cited Swansea's poor form in 2025 as a defining factor, which will come as little surprise to supporters. It will be interesting to see where Swansea go from here, with the side left 17th in the Championship after 33 matches of the 2024/25 campaign.

Coleman wrote: "This was a difficult decision and one that has not been taken lightly. Luke has led the club through some challenging periods and we appreciate his hard work.

"I am aware of the effort he and his staff have put in throughout the last 13 months for Swansea City. I want to personally thank Luke, Ryan and George for their dedication and the sacrifices they have made on behalf of the club.

"Unfortunately, since the turn of the year our performances and results have not been of the standard required at this level. Ultimately, that has led us to conclude a change is required in order to bring about an improvement in our showings on the pitch.

"We will keep supporters informed of developments when we are in a position to announce a new head coach, while Alan, his staff and our squad focus on our upcoming fixtures."
