Ferland Mendy continues to pose an issue for Real Madrid given his unrelenting fitness problems.

The French left-back, who turned 30 years old this month, was valued highly by former manager Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian time and again insisted that Mendy was the best defensive left-back in the world.

However, his regular fitness problems have become a concern for the club.

Ferland Mendy will not be fit until October

Having suffered a thigh injury in late April, Mendy is now unlikely to be fully fit until October, reports MARCA.

The French international injured just ten minutes into the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona – having made his return from a previous injury after a month out.

The muscle issue was expected to keep the ex-Lyon man out for around three months. But it is now being reported that it could take until October for the left-back to be fully fit again.

So far in 2024/25, Mendy has suffered three injuries, missing 18 games while he will not play any part in the FIFA Club World Cup either.

Now, it is expected that the 30-year-old left-back will also miss the first couple of months of the new season.

Change in transfer plans?

With Real Madrid planning to sign Alvaro Carreras, there were some question marks over Mendy’s future this summer.

It had been suggested that the club might look to offload one of Mendy or Fran Garcia to make room for Carreras.

But the Frenchman’s injury situation potentially rules out his exit while Los Blancos will likely be forced to keep hold of Garcia as well considering that Mendy will be out until October.
