Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi has received positive news from the infirmary, as his captain Lautaro Martinez will be ready for the clash against Atalanta.
The Argentine was the last player to return from his summer vacation. The club granted him extra weeks of rest due to his international commitment with Argentina who went on to clinch the Copa America title against Colombia.
In fact, it was the Nerazzurri skipper who scored the winning goal in the final.
However, Inter urged him to cut his vacation short by a few days following Mehdi Taremi’s muscular injury earlier this month.
Lautaro made a swift return to Italy and managed to start the first match of the season against Genoa.
However, the striker later suffered muscle fatigue. This ruled him out of last weekend’s 2-0 win over Lecce.
But according to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, Martinez has now fully recovered. Therefore, he will be available at Inzaghi’s disposal for tomorrow’s clash against Atalanta.
Inter will host their fellow Lombardians at San Siro on Friday night. This tilt will be the club’s first big test of the season.
And luckily for the Italian champions, they will be able to rely on the services of their returning captain.
However, the source warns that the World Cup winner won’t have 90 minutes in his legs. After all, he remains far from his optimal physical condition, especially after missing the bulk of the club’s pre-season preparations.
Therefore, Inzaghi will have to decide whether to field the returning captain from the get-go, or maintain last weekend’s starting attacking duo of Marcus Thuram and Mehdi Taremi.
The Frenchman appears certain of a starting role, while the Iranian will be vying for a spot against Martinez,
