The 2021/22 season of Maignan was nothing short of terrific: the goalkeeper arrived last summer from Lille to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma between the sticks of Milan, and played a huge part in the Rossoneri’s Scudetto win.

Mike won the best goalkeeper award in Serie A in the last campaign and was one of the best in his position in the world.

France Football agrees with the above sentiment and today (Friday) they announced the nominees for the 2022 Trophée Yachine, a trophy presented annually by France Football to the best performing goalkeeper. The award is named after Russian (Soviet Union) goalkeeper Lev Yashin. The winner is selected by former Ballon d’Or winners. In 2019 the winner was Alisson, and Donnarumma in 2021.

This year’s candidates are: Yassine Bounou (Sevilla), Alisson Becker (Liverpool), Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid), Ederson (Manchester City), Edouard Mendy (Chelsea), Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich), Jan Oblak (Atlético de Madrid), Kevin Trapp (Eintracht Frankfurt), Hugo Lloris (Spurs) and Maignan.

The most obvious winner would be Courtois who together with Carlo Ancelotti won the Champions League last season and the European Super Cup this week.
