Manchester United captain Harry Maguire took a cheeky dig at Donny van de Beek who was handed the captain’s armband against Brentford (h/t MEN). The English defender sent a friendly reminder to Van de Beek to not stretch the armband, to which the Dutchman replied with a laughing emoji.
Pre-season is underway for Manchester United as the players slowly return in small groups from their post-Euros holidays. Youngsters such as Elanga, Mengi and Shoretire have all been featuring heavily in the absence of their senior counterparts. However, Solskjaer does have a few senior players at his disposal.

Donny van de Beek was among the names that returned to action against Brentford when he came on for Jesse Lingard. The Dutchman was handed the captain’s armband by Nemanja Matic, which he happily took.
Manchester United posted an image of the player wearing the armband on social media. United’s designated captain Harry Maguire sent a cheeky comment telling Van de Beek to not stretch the armband. The midfielder took it in jest and replied with some laughing emojis.
It was a nice gesture to hand Van de Beek the captain’s armband even if it was preseason. The former Ajax prodigy could use some confidence after what was a debut season spent on the benches. Quiet how much Van de Beek features this season will be interesting to see though.
