Williams sustained the injury in the 80th minute of the match against Racing Louisville after completing a defensive run. When the ball got passed away, the forward fell to the ground and called over for assistance before walking off on her own to officially exit the game.

Williams joined the Current in January as an offseason trade after spending the previous four seasons with the North Carolina Courage. In 2021 alone, she recorded seven goals in 17 appearances. Internationally, the forward has represented the US women’s national team 30 times, featuring in the Tokyo Olympics and the 2022 SheBelieves cup.

This is the third major injury announced so far this week after the NWSL kicked off last weekend. Williams joins Chicago Red Stars player Tierna Davidson and Marta on the sidelines as the two players also suffered season-ending injuries.
