Lynn Williams becomes NWSL all-time NWSL scorer | OneFootball

MIAMI — Every week, new records are broken in each women’s football professional league across Concacaf as new opportunities to grow the history of the game continue to present themselves.

On Sunday evening, the defending NWSL Champions NJ/NY Gotham FC won their fourth game of the season against the Chicago Red Stars, 2-1. The game included late emotions, as Ella Stevens scored the match winner the 90’, helping her team to seventh place in the table.

The first goal of the current champions wrote a new chapter in the league’s history books. With her header in the 57’, Lynn Williams became the all-time leading scorer in all competitions in NWSL history by scoring her 79th goal.

The U.S women’s national team forward surpassed Australian international Sam Kerr for the honor. Williams is no stranger to writing history, as she has been NWSL Champion four times in her career. Her title conquests have come with Western New York Flash in 2016, with the North Carolina Courage in 2018 and 2019, and last year with NJ/NY Gotham.

Over in Mexico, the final of the Liga MX Femenil Clausura 2024 season is set as America and Rayadas became the winners of the semifinals. This will be the first time these two teams face each other in the Liguilla Final.

Apertura 2023 champions Tigres pulled one goal back in the aggregate score against America thanks to a penalty kick from Jacqueline Ovalle in 90’+4. America would hold on, having won the first leg 3-1, to get to the final 3-2 on aggregate.

Two-time champions Monterrey are back in a Liga MX Femenil final after defeating Pachuca 6-2 on aggregate. Pachuca started off strong, with a goal from Alice Soto in the 16’ but Rayadas responded with a Christina Burkenroad hat-trick. Her first goal came in the 32’, closely followed by a loose ball that she made sure to put in the net in the 37’, and a header in the 54’. Nicole Perez was also on the score sheet, getting the third of the night in the 45’. The Tuzas pulled one back with a penalty conversion in the 87’ from Charlyn Corral.

Monterrey was victorious, earning a spot in the final against America and also booking its place in the 2024-25 Concacaf W Champions Cup.
