As NWSL teams conduct their preseasons, the world's national teams have also sprung into life for the first time in 2025. Seven NJ/NY Gotham FC players were named to the roster of their respective national teams in February.

Emily Sonnett and Tierna Davidson were called up to the USWNT for their SheBelieves Cup campaign, with Sonnett looking to win her record-extending eighth title in the competition. Three players were called up for UEFA Nations League play, with Jess Carter, Ann-Katrin Berger, and Jéssica Silva called up for England, Germany, and Portugal, respectively. Bruninha received a call-up from Brazil, and new signing Stella Nyamekye received the call for Ghana.

Here is a look at how the Gotham FC players fared for their national teams.

Gotham FC and the February international break

Bruninha: Brazil

Brazil did not play any matches during this international window and decided to hold only a training camp. Brazil will be back in action in April in a pair of friendlies against the USWNT in Los Angeles and San Jose in a rematch of last summer's Olympic gold Medal game, which the United States won 1-0. Gotham FC's Bruninha will have to wait and see whether she is called up.

Jess Carter: England

Carter was named to England's squad for their two UEFA Nations League A, Group 3 matches against Portugal and Spain. She came on as a half-time sub at right-back for Chelsea's Lucy Bronze in their first match, a 1-1 draw away to Portugal. She was then an unused substitute in The Lionesses' 1-0 home win over reigning Nations League champions Spain. These results place England at the top of their group with four matches to play.

The winners of the four League A groups will advance to the semifinal phase in October. Their next matches in the competition will be in April when they play home and away to Belgium, who currently sit last in their group.

Ann-Katrin Berger: Germany

Berger played her first game of 2025 against the Netherlands, where she conceded two goals on three shots on target in a 2-2 away draw. The Gotham goalkeeper was then on the bench for Germany's 4-1 home win over Austria.

This puts Germany at the top of their Nations League group with four games left. Their next matches in the competition are in April when they will play home and away with Scotland.

Stella Nyamekye: Ghana

Nyamekye was an unused substitute in Ghana's friendly loss away to Morocco 1-0. This was Ghana's first match under new head coach Kim Björkegren, who was previously head coach at Racing Louisville FC from 2022 through 2023.

Jéssica Silva: Portugal

Silva started both of Portugal's Nations League matches, playing 75 minutes in both a 1-1 draw at home to England and a 1-0 win away to Belgium. Portugal is currently second in their Nations League group and plays their next two matches in April, both home and away to Spain.

Tierna Davidson: USWNT

After being named to her seventh SheBelieves Cup roster, Davidson made her first appearance of 2025 in the USWNT's second game of the tournament against Australia after being an unused substitute against Colombia. Against Australia, Davidson was named captain and went the full 90 minutes. She then came in as a 68th-minute substitute in the USWNT's 2-1 loss to Japan.

Emily Sonnett: USWNT

Gotham FC's Sonnett went into this year's SheBelieves Cup tied with Alyssa Naeher for most titles in this competition with seven. Now, with Naeher having retired from international play, Sonnett had the opportunity to move into sole possession of first place with eight titles.

She was named captain and played the full 90 minutes in the team's 2-0 win over Colombia, where she was honored prior to kickoff for reaching 100 international caps. After not playing the second game against Australia, she again started and played the full 90 minutes against Japan, but missed out on the eighth title as the US lost.
