Luton Town are set to offer Rob Edwards a deal to extend his stay at Kenilworth Road, according to the Telegraph.

The Hatters could have faced a real struggle to keep hold of their manager, with Ipswich Town thought to have been keen on the possibility of Edwards replacing Kieran McKenna if the latter left Portman Road.

McKenna had been heavily linked with a move away from Suffolk, with Brighton, Chelsea and Manchester United all thought to have been keen on the Northern Irishman.

However, it looks as though the Blues will appoint Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca to replace Mauricio Pochettino, who departed Stamford Bridge earlier this month.

As well as this, McKenna looks set to extend his stay at Portman Road, which should prevent the Tractor Boys from losing their boss this summer.

With this in mind, Edwards doesn't look set to make the switch to Suffolk anytime soon, although interest from other clubs can't be ruled out in the coming months.

At this stage though, it looks as though the 41-year-old will stay put at Kenilworth Road, with the Hatters seemingly retaining faith in their boss despite their relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season.

His conduct off the pitch and the fact he guided the club to the top flight following Nathan Jones' departure has perhaps earned him more time at Kenilworth Road.

And it was always going to be difficult for Luton to remain in the top tier considering the calibre of teams they faced, with the Hatters opting against spending big, continuing to operate sensibly instead.

They are now set to make an investment in their manager, if he signs a new deal.

Edwards still has two years left on his contract at Kenilworth Road and considering the managerial turnover rate of clubs these days, it wouldn't have been a surprise if the Hatters had been willing to run down his contract for a while.

However, they are keen to offer him a new "long-term" contract to secure his future, potentially to fend off other clubs.

It has been reported that he has attracted interest from multiple clubs, not just Ipswich, with the 41-year-old doing enough to impress other teams.

The Hatters are thought to be keen to reward him with improved terms despite their relegation, which could increase their chances of tying their manager down to fresh terms.

Edwards has done an excellent job at Luton.

Following his spell at Watford, it would have been difficult for him to make a bright start at Luton, but he managed to guide them to the top flight and that is a major achievement.

The foundations may have already been in place, with predecessor Nathan Jones and key figure Gary Sweet helping to make the Hatters a real force, but Edwards needed to build on that and that was never going to be an easy task.

And despite their low points total last term, the Hatters showed enough promise to suggest that they will be in the promotion mix next term.

Edwards is certainly someone Luton would benefit from holding on to.
