Cristiano Ronaldo had a very close shave on Wednesday when a fan jumped from the stands and very nearly landed on the Portugal superstar feet first.

The incident occurred when Ronaldo was leaving the pitch following Portugal’s 2-0 defeat to Georgia at EURO 2024.

The 39-year-old had already endured a frustrating evening when he was booked earlier in the game for remonstrating with the referee, and his frustration boiled over when he kicked a water bottle on the touchline after being substituted in the 66th-minute.

Ronaldo was then involved in a heated discussion with the Georgia bench at full-time and as he headed towards the tunnel, a fan vaulted over the barricade and would have landed on the Al-Nassr star, were it not for the heroic intervention of a nearby steward.

A close call or what?

It was a better evening for Georgia’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who not only scored in the game, but also got Ronaldo’s shirt as a memento afterwards.

The Napoli man has gone on record as saying he idolises Ronaldo, and before the match, this cool photo emerged of him meeting his hero as a child.

A lovely moment, and Ronaldo’s smile in the pre-match handshake suggested he’s a Kvaradona fan too.
