Both clubs earned automatic promotion to the top flight after a gruelling battle with Leeds United and Southampton for the top two places in the Championship.

The Foxes clinched the title by one point, with Enzo Maresca guiding Leicester back to the first division just 12 months after they suffered relegation.

Meanwhile Kieran McKenna has overseen a remarkable rise at Portman Road, completing back-to-back promotions with the Suffolk outfit.

Ipswich will compete in the Premier League for the first time since 2002, having been in League One when the Northern Irishman was appointed in December 2021.

Stephen Warnock gives verdict on Leicester and Ipswich’s Premier League hopes

Warnock believes that the clubs’ transfer business this summer will be crucial to their survival in the Premier League beyond one year.

He has warned that they must avoid the same mistakes that Sheffield United made following their promotion last year.

“It’s what clubs can do in the transfer market now to improve their chances of staying up,” said Warnock via NewBettingOffers.co.uk.

“It is a possibility Leicester may have financial restrictions to contend with.

“Will they be able to spend money, or do they need to cash in on big players like Dewsbury-Hall to then re-invest that money in the club? Then you’re losing a quality player in Dewsbury-Hall and it’s going to have a knock-on effect.

“Look at Sheffield United, when they lost Sander Berge and Iliman Ndiaye to free up funds.

“They lost key players, which many teams can’t afford to do.

“It’ll be interesting to see what Ipswich do.

“They’re riding the crest of a wave and have some great momentum.

“For them, the big thing is to not add too many players to the squad or it’ll disrupt it.

“It was a similar challenge for Burnley the season gone.

“They had to have a huge overhaul because of all the loan players they had in the Championship, and they wanted to re-invest for the future of the football club.

“I don’t know how Ipswich are going to fare but I’m fascinated to see how Kieran McKenna is going to get on.”

Ipswich earned 96 points on their way to second place in the Championship, six more than Leeds United in third.

A 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town on the final day of the season confirmed their automatic promotion to the top flight.

Leicester sealed top spot with a game spare, beating Preston North End 3-0 at Deepdale to secure the title.

Both sides will now be planning for life in the top flight, with plenty of summer business likely.

Ipswich and Leicester will need improvements to survive in Premier League

While both squads have done extremely well to gain promotion, there are also enough holes going into the new season that suggests signings will be made to survive next year.

Ipswich relied on a couple of loan players like Kieffer Moore, Omari Hutchinson and Jeremy Sarmiento that will now go back to their parent clubs.

Either permanent deals, or fresh targets need to be sought to fill those gaps in the squad as they will struggle otherwise.

Leicester’s financial issues are well documented, but they also have a lot of players out of contract that might not renew which will require work in the transfer market to solve.
