RB Leipzig’s Loïs Openda enjoyed a remarkable debut campaign at the German club last season following his move from RC Lens. The Belgian registered 35 goal contributions (28 goals and seven assists) in 45 games across all competitions last season, bettered only by Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane from players based in Germany.

The 24-year-old’s performances resulted in concrete interest from England’s top clubs: Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Leicester City, but Openda opted to remain at RB Leipzig. And the Belgian has hit the ground running again with three goals in three games for the Saxony club this season, including a brace against reigning Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, ending their unbeaten run.

Openda will no doubt have interest again next summer, but RB Leipzig remain in a good negotiating position. According to Sport Bild, the Belgium international does not have an exit clause in his contract for 2025, meaning that RB Leipzig can command a significant fee for their key player. The following year, in 2026, Openda has a reported exit clause of €80m, which would be the club’s biggest departure after Joško Gvardiol, who left for Manchester City in 2023 for €90m.
