Sydney Lohmann says she and Rebecca Knaak have spoken about her move to City and are eager to work together at both Club and international level.
The Germany midfielder joins from Bayern Munich, subject to international clearance, on the back of winning a fourth league title in five years, as well as their domestic cup, the DFB-Pokal.
Lohmann has also been selected to represent her home nation at this summer’s European Championships, where she’ll line up alongside new City team-mate Rebecca Knaak.
A January signing from Swedish champions FC Rosengard, Knaak has adapted well to life at City, and Lohmann says the defender was excited about the Club’s future when the pair discussed her move to the Joie Stadium.
“To be honest I was speaking to her before and also asked her a few questions about how things are going here,” the midfielder said.
“We’re sending voice messages back and forth and she sounded really happy and excited.
“And she said how great things are here, that there is actually so much more to come and that she thinks there’s and a lot of space to develop for the team.
“We had a lot of contact and I was really impressed with what she said. I think that’s a nice bond we have now going into the Euros. I’m happy for her.
“She came here and was in the national team after and especially at that age, getting there and playing a tournament after.
“I’m happy for her and I’m happy to share those moments with her.”
Lohmann will hope to acclimatise as swiftly to the WSL as Knaak did, with the defender receiving her first senior Germany call-up within weeks of joining City in the new year.
Given her track record of success in the Bundesliga, the midfielder seems well equipped for the cut and thrust of English football as she prepares for her first overseas move.
It’s a challenge which the 25-year-old is relishing and believes can bring the best out of her.
She added: “Everyone who plays here says how challenging the league is, how good it is, how tough every game is. I think that’s something that excites me.
“After a few years playing in the same league, you know the opponents and what’s coming, and having something new is really nice.
“I’m expecting a really physical league, games that are really tight and hard to win.
“Just to challenge yourself in a new ground is something I’m looking forward to.”
