The new Santiago Bernabeu, once fully open, will be a state-of-the-art facility and one of the most modern football stadiums in the world.

Equipped with a fully functional and retractable roof, and a fully retractable pitch that can be pushed underground to host other events, it will be one of a kind in multiple ways.

While the official unveiling of the new stadium is much anticipated, there appears to be a certain sect of society unhappy with the development and even opposing its progress.

The opposers

As revealed by Mundo Deportivo, the Neighbourhood Association of the area are unhappy with the remodelling of the stadium and cites it to be ‘illegal’ for reasons beyond the footballing aspect.

As clarified by the opposers, they are not against any football matches being played at the arena but the various other events that will be regularly staged at the venue once it is inaugurated.

They claim that the loud volume of events, concerts and galas at the Bernabeu which are said to be scheduled five or six times a week will disturb their quality of life with ‘loud volume’.

Legal action to be taken

The report furthers that the association plans to pursue legal action to paralyse the work and remove the illegal project. They hope that an order from the judiciary will put Real Madrid’s renovation on hold for the time being.

There are reportedly close to 300 events already scheduled to take place at the Bernabeu once it opens, including a Taylor Swift concert on the agenda.

The American singer-songwriter’s concert, in fact, is expected to be clubbed with the presentation of Kylian Mbappe as a new Galactico later this year. Among the other known events to be held at the venue is an NFL game in 2025.

It thus remains to be seen how Real Madrid respond to the aforementioned accusations and if the issue is indeed raised in court.
