Liverpool's midfield about to get WEAKER as top prospect on the way out

Liverpool's midfield could be about to get weaker as multiple clubs have shown an interest in signing one of Arne Slot's biggest prospects.

Having just sold Bobby Clark to Red Bull Salzburg, Sporting Director Richard Hughes is also looking to sanction transfer deals for a number of highly-rated players.

While Hughes has struggled to bring players into the club so far this summer, momentum has been building around a number of outgoings, with midfielders like Tyler Morton and James McConnell linked with moves away.

Ryan Gravenberch performed well against Ipswich in a deep-lying midfield role on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, but with Liverpool competing in multiple competitions and Slot seemingly unenthusiastic about Wataru Endo's ability to pass out from the back to a high level, selling other midfield options could spell trouble later in the season.

Despite this, Hughes looks set to sanction another departure before the transfer window closes, this time for one of the club's highest-rated midfield prospects.

Spanish newspaper Faro de Vigo say LaLiga side Celta Vigo could be about to make a loan move for Stefan Bajčetić, who plays in that deep midfield role.

The Spanish midfielder missed most of last season as he dealt with adductor and calf injuries which limited his minutes in a year he was expected to challenge for a starting spot in Jürgen Klopp's side.

According to FootballInsider, Liverpool have been 'besieged' with offers for Bajčetić, who burst onto the scene in late 2022 and looked like a huge talent before he was hit with injury.

A MOVE HOME?

While a move away from Liverpool could spell danger for Slot's side, who failed to sign Martin Zubimendi in their quest to strengthen the number 6 position, it could also represent a great chance for Bajčetić to get his career back on track closer to home.

Liverpool bought Bajčetić from Celta Vigo in December 2020 for approximately £224,000, so it would be understandable if he was attracted to the idea of a loan move away from Anfield for the season.

The news again begs the question: will Hughes bring in the central midfielder that Slot seems to want, or will he and Michael Edwards put faith in the squad as it is until January?
