Liverpool will not make a move for Spain's Nico Williams despite plenty of speculation. Instead, they’re planning to have someone else...
The Athletic claims Liverpool are not in the market for Nico Williams this summer. The Athletic Bilbao winger has brought about a lot of attention with his performances at Euro 2024.
Those performances reportedly had Liverpool eager to make an early move for Williams. The Reds have been linked for quite some time and it was believed they saw him as an ideal addition to their attack.

However, the Athletic says that's simply not true. Liverpool have too many options on the left flank as it is, and plan to have Luis Diaz there next season.
That latter point is especially notable as Diaz has consistently been linked with a move away from Anfield, two and a half years since his £37m arrival. Barcelona are very interested in the Colombian but it appears Liverpool will hang on to him - and reject any chance to sign Williams.
The fact that Liverpool have so many players capable of operating on the left wing always made a move to Williams difficult to justify. Diaz starts there, while Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota can both arguably call it their natural position.
Darwin Nunez has started several games there, too, and even the likes of Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai are comfortable in the role. And so spending £50m on a new player made little sense.
Unless, of course, Diaz leaves. Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked, with the former linked consistently over the last six months.
There have always been doubts over their ability to pay for him, however. Those doubts appear to have plenty of weight behind them, too, with Liverpool not expecting a sale this year.
So with that, you can expect Diaz on the left next season - and not Williams.
