Liverpool are celebrating a British-record transfer for Florian Wirtz, who arrives from Bayer Leverkusen on a fee that could reach £116m overall.

They have also signed Wirtz’s former club-mate Jeremie Frimpong as well as Hungarian goalkeeper Armin Pecsi. Soon Milos Kerkez will be announced as a new Liverpool player but sporting director Richard Hughes and head coach Arne Slot won’t stop there.

The next big target is a new centre-forward. Neither Darwin Nunez nor Diogo Jota have managed to win over Arne Slot thus far. And for that reason, the Merseysiders are expected to go into the market for a new high-quality option.

Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike and Joao Pedro are among the No9s linked and another intriguing name has emerged on the radar in recent weeks.

Liverpool want Osimhen

Victor Osimhen, 26, is available with only one year left on his Napoli contract. The Nigerian superstar hit 37 goals in 41 games overall for Galatasaray on loan last season - helping his side to a Turkish league and cup double.

But there is little chance of him seeing out his Napoli contract - with a reported €75m release clause for overseas clubs.

And now it’s been claimed by a source in Naples that Liverpool ARE interested in adding Osimhen - with complex negotiations between the Reds’ club bosses and their Napoli counterparts now underway.

"There is a market connection between Napoli and Liverpool,” Valter De Maggio of Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli said according to Area Napoli.

“The English club wants Osimhen and Napoli from this point of view does not make any discounts on the clause, therefore asking for 75 million euros as per the contract.”

Napoli request info on Chiesa and Darwin

As part of the talks, Napoli are reported to have asked for information about Darwin Nunez as well as Federico Chiesa. Head coach Antonio Conte is seeking attacking upgrades and both Liverpool title-winners could potentially fit the bill.

“The sporting director of the Neapolitan club, Giovanni Manna, has tried to ask for information for the two Reds forwards, namely Darwin Nunez and the Italian former Juventus player Federico Chiesa,” the report continues.

It’s been claimed that Liverpool have offered a straight-up swap deal with the Italian Serie A title holders. However, Napoli president Aurelio Di Laurentiis is seeking to add a cash total to the deal.

Napoli value Osimhen at €75m

"Liverpool would have opened up to Napoli by proposing an equal exchange between the players involved in this operation,” the report continues.

“Aurelio De Laurentiis, however, has other ideas and is not listening: the president of the blue club is asking for Chiesa, Nunez and 20 million for Osimhen's registration.”

Napoli’s buyout for Osimhen is €75m. It’s also been reported that Liverpool will settle for €15m for Chiesa. Add €20m to that sum and you get to €35m.

The remaining amount to reach Osimhen’s clause is €40m - which is probably a bit less than Liverpool want to achieve for Darwin. Some high-stakes talks will now take place over the exact terms of the deal.
