Liverpool and Arsenal clash at Anfield on Sunday 31st August in a huge early-season battle between two teams expecting to challenge for the Premier League title, live at 4:30pm on Sky Sports Main Event.

Draw (5/2 with Betway)

Arsenal and Liverpool couldn’t be separated in this fixture last season, where they played out two entertaining 2-2 draws. They also have one win apiece from the last six meetings in all competitions (four draws).

This should be another closely fought game, especially with both sides having perfect starts to their Premier League seasons. Liverpool have been the entertainers of the season so far, winning their games 4-2 and 3-2 so far, whilst Arsenal have been efficient in their games, beating Man Utd 1-0 and Leeds 5-0 and keeping two clean sheets.

Gabriel Martinelli to score anytime (7/2 with Betway)

Gabriel Martinelli winger has a superb record in this fixture, scoring four times in his last seven appearances against Liverpool, including the 2-2 draw at Anfield last season.

With there being doubts over the fitness of both Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard, Martinelli could be handed a key role in the Arsenal attack and that could lead to him improving on his record against the Reds. Martinelli is likely to play off the left hand side of the Arsenal attack, coming up against the right hand side of a Liverpool defence that has definitely been their weak spot in the opening two games of the season.

How both teams go into Liverpool vs Arsenal

Liverpool’s opening match was an exciting one as they had their two-goal lead wiped out by the brilliant Antoine Semenyo, only for Federico Chiesa and Mo Salah to score late on to secure the three points. Prior to this, the Reds drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace in the Community Shield, before losing on penalties. Summer signing Hugo Ekitike impressed in particular with two goals and an assist across the two games.

Liverpool struggled for long periods last weekend against Newcastle but were able to come away from the North East with all three points thanks to a 99th minute winner in a 3-2 victory. Whilst the Reds have looked at their fearsome best in attack they have looked poor in defence, as shown by conceding four goals in two games so far.

Arsenal were far from their best but got the job done in a narrow 1-0 win away to Man United. The only goal of the game came early on in the 13th minute from a Riccardo Calafiori header after Altay Bayindi made a complete hash of the corner.

The Gunners were much improved against Leeds last weekend though, romping home 5-0 with new striker Viktor Gyokeres getting on the scoresheet twice. Arsenal have yet to concede a goal this season, with Gabriel and William Saliba looking at their best at the heart of the Arsenal defence.

Liverpool team news

Jeremie Frimpong will be out until after the international break for Arne Slot’s side. Alexis Mac Allister missed out last weekend as he fights for fitness but Slot is hoping to have him back at full fitness this weekend.

Arsenal team news

Over at Arsenal, Mikel Arteta has a headache selection – of the good kind – at right and left back, but the same can’t be said for the attacking areas with doubts hanging over the heads of Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka. Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus will definitely be out.
