Jurgen Klopp’s men return to action on the weekend after the loss to Arsenal closed the gap to 2 points on Sunday afternoon with Ibrahima Konate’s dismissal after two yellow cards.
After Arsenal, Klopp will be looking to restore the team’s confidence and emulate the Boxing Day success they had against Saturday’s opposition Burnley, with Darwin Nunez scoring the opener in the 6th minute in their last match.
In terms of the visitors, they showed resilience in their last game against Fulham with Chelsea loanee David Fofana rescuing a point late on. Before that, Vincent Kompany’s side lost four out of their last five games, including that 2-0 loss to Liverpool.
The Reds will be pleased with Nunez set to return, coming back from his foot injury after only featuring from the bench at the Emirates Stadium.
Should Unai Emery be on Liverpool’s shortlist to replace Jurgen Klopp?
Wataru Endo could be in contention too, with an exit in the Asian Cup on Saturday, along with Thiago who fortunately featured on the weekend after his last appearance last April.
Although Klopp has a boost in midfield selection, the brilliant Dominik Szoboszlai is unlikely to feature after he sustained a hamstring injury, resulting in him missing a reported 3-4 weeks, equivalent to 7-8 games of action.
Despite this, Liverpool’s record has been positive against Burnley in their last matches, winning four, drawing one and a 0-1 loss back in the 2020/21 season.
The Reds’ form has been excellent for the most part, losing two out of a possible 23 in the Premier League, Klopp will be optimistic with his returns and an expected record attendance of 60,000, and Anfield & Liverpool are ready to resume winning ways.
Liverpool will expect to reinstall their gap at the top of the table with their return to Anfield, kicking off at 3.00pm on Saturday.
Predicted Lineup
With Liverpool’s recent record against Burnley, this side will be confident to get all three points on the weekend despite their injury worries worsening with Szobozslai added to the list of Doak, Matip, Tsimikas, Bajcetic, Salah, currently out with Konate facing a recent suspension following his red card against Arsenal.
After a lacklustre performance with one shot on target throughout the game and errors across the pitch, it won’t be difficult for Klopp’s side to improve on their last game, however, a similar starting 11 is likely to feature.
XI: Alisson, Trent, Quansah, Van Dijk, Gomez, Mac Allister, Elliott, Jones, Diaz, Nunez, Jota.
Jarell Quansah will fill in for the suspended Konate, with Gomez continuing to start with his positive form continuing & Mac Allister doing the holding in midfield after his positive glimpses against Arsenal.
A change of forwards is likely with Gakpo after his lack of impact against Arsenal and an eager Nunez with 22 G/A across all competitions.
Ultimately, on paper, the Reds should expect to take all three points against Burnley with features from the bench if the scoreline is widened, yet Klopp will be prepared for a tough game after their resilience against Fulham and looking forward to a record crowd at Anfield!

Redmen Reacts
Bouncing back is all Liverpool can do now and doing so in style is imperative as Klopp’s side attempt to prove last weekend was indeed just a blip and that result will not define the season as a whole.
Whilst the Clarets pose a newfound threat with their style, it’s fair to say that the return to the top flight hasn’t gone as planned for Kompany’s side and therefore The Reds will be hopeful of getting the job done.
