Liverpool manager target Ruben Amorim has his sights set on breaking an all-time record with Sporting CP this season. He might just do it.

Ruben Amorim is overseeing another fantastic season with Sporting CP. They're now seven points clear of Benfica at the top of Liga Portugal after winning their last five games.

They've been scoring goals for fun, too, and even reached the Portuguese cup final. The Double is very much on the cards for Amorim and his team.

But that's not all they have their sights on. Corriere da Manha reports that Sporting now have their eyes on the all-time points record in Liga Portugal.

That currently stands at 91, set by FC Porto in 2022. Sporting can top that - but only if they win all five remaining fixtures. That would put them on 92 points, setting the record.

Of course, that would mean winning a total of 10 straight games, given they're currently on that five-game winning streak. That's incredibly improbable but with the title all but wrapped up, it's their next natural aim.

Liverpool like Ruben Amorim

Amorim has been linked with the Liverpool job for months, and especially in the wake of Xabi Alonso removing himself from contention. It's stats like this that have him in the frame and, it should be said, as the current favourite to replace Jurgen Klopp.

Sporting hadn't won the title since 2002 when Amorim clinched it in 2021. He's almost certainly going to become their first manager to win it twice since the 1960s.

He's had a transformative effect on the side and the way he's helped develop certain players has been remarkable. Liverpool have even been linked with a few of them - Matheus Nunes being one, while links to Goncalo Inacio have persisted for some time now.

Now, Amorim isn't a certainty to take over but as he battles to make history this season, he looks more and more like the best choice for Liverpool.
