Liverpool have submitted an official £35 million bid to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.
The proposal is a flat fee with no add-ons and is now under consideration by Palace, who have not yet issued a formal response.
The England international is open to a move if the two clubs reach an agreement before the transfer window closes on Monday.
Talks between Liverpool and Palace have been described as cordial, with both sides maintaining a positive relationship throughout negotiations.
Palace manager Oliver Glasner has made clear his desire to keep Guehi, particularly with so little time left in the window.
But the south London club face a difficult decision as the defender enters the final year of his contract and has no intention of signing an extension.
Allowing him to run down his deal would risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.
Liverpool’s interest comes after Jarell Quansah was sold to Bayer Leverkusen for £35 million earlier in the window.
That departure left captain Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate as the only senior centre-backs in Arne Slot’s squad.
Konate himself is out of contract in 2026 and talks over a renewal have not advanced.
Guehi, 25, has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most reliable defenders since joining Palace from Chelsea in 2021.
He has made 155 appearances for the Eagles and last season captained the club to their first major trophy with FA Cup victory over Manchester City at Wembley.
He also played a key role in England’s run to the European Championship final in 2024 and has earned 23 senior caps.
Newcastle United tested Palace’s resolve last summer with four failed bids, the last worth up to £65 million with add-ons.
Palace chairman Steve Parish has previously said only ‘superstar money’ would prise away their captain, though the looming risk of losing him for nothing has altered the dynamic.
Liverpool see Guehi as the ideal candidate to strengthen their defence after shipping nine goals in five pre-season matches and conceding twice in the Community Shield defeat to Palace.
Arne Slot has stressed the need for greater depth at centre-back, with options such as Wataru Endo or Ryan Gravenberch filling in viewed as makeshift solutions.
Guehi is regarded by Liverpool as a player with both proven Premier League pedigree and significant room to develop further at Anfield.
