Liverpool Keep Watchful Eye as Isak Contract Stalls at Newcastle

Liverpool are refusing to close the door on a potential blockbuster move for Alexander Isak. As reported by Rousing The Kop, the Reds have made their intent known with an informal approach for the Newcastle United forward, suggesting they are willing to pay in the region of £120 million.

While Newcastle maintain their stance that Isak is not for sale, the situation surrounding his contract renewal has added intrigue. The Swedish striker, who remains under contract until 2028, is yet to agree fresh terms, and both he and his representatives are reportedly pushing for a significant pay rise.

Contract uncertainty shapes Liverpool’s plans

Liverpool’s approach has not developed into a formal offer, but that could soon change. Transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey told RTK, “Liverpool aren’t going away. If there’s a chance of getting him, Liverpool are going to be there.”

Bailey clarified that the Reds’ message to Isak and Newcastle was clear: “Don’t forget, we are here and ready to make our move.”

It is understood that any official bid will only be lodged if Liverpool receive encouragement, particularly regarding Isak’s contract situation. “If Liverpool think it’s doable, a bid could go in, it’s not beyond the realms of fantasy,” Bailey added. “They’ve already come in and made it clear they’ll pay £120m, so it’s already a bid in everything but name.”

Newcastle face critical financial decision

Although the Magpies have no immediate need to sell, the pressure is mounting. Isak’s agents are using Liverpool’s interest as leverage in ongoing contract talks, a strategy that places Newcastle in a delicate position.

Bailey pointed to fresh developments involving Isak’s representation: “One of his agents has spoken to the Saudi Arabian press, and they were really interesting comments about what’s happening.”

With interest from elite European clubs now public, Newcastle may soon be forced to either meet Isak’s financial expectations or risk losing him. “The contract is the main thing,” said Bailey. “If he does, or has, turned down this contract, that’s the next thing we’ve got here. Then there could be some traction to it.”

Liverpool’s stance remains firm and patient

While the situation remains fluid, Liverpool’s current position is clear. The club are prepared to act decisively if the right moment presents itself. Their strategy mirrors previous high-profile pursuits, calculated and patient, but ready to strike when conditions align.

Bailey made it clear that the Merseyside club view Isak as a top-tier target. “The player knows what’s going on,” he said. “He knows what is potentially on offer at Liverpool or another club.”

Although Newcastle may feel they hold the cards due to Isak’s long-term contract, Liverpool’s interest has intensified the stakes. As Bailey put it, “Money isn’t the be all and end all, but he was the best striker in the Premier League last season and Newcastle need to recognise that.”

Our View – Anfield Index Analysis

This has the hallmarks of a classic Liverpool manoeuvre, quiet determination, smart timing and eyes locked on the long game. For fans, this is more than just a rumour. Isak’s name has been circling for some time, but now the pieces are in motion. A £120m outlay would smash Liverpool’s transfer record and underline a shift in financial strategy under FSG.

It feels like the club are waiting to see if Newcastle blink first. If Isak turns down that contract, the green light comes on. And let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want to see Isak in red? He fits Arne Slot’s system. He’s technically sharp, physical, mobile and just entering his peak. The thought of him rotating with Ekitike or combining with Salah is the kind of thing that gets you dreaming again.

It may not happen this week. It may not happen at all. But the signs are there. Liverpool have done their homework, made their intentions clear, and now hold a quiet confidence that the right time to act may yet come.
