Liverpool star Mohamed Salah had to be escorted off the pitch by security after he was targeted by pitch invaders during Egypt’s 2-0 victory over Sierra Leone on Sunday.
Footage posted on social media shows military officers rushing onto the pitch to protect the 31-year-old as rival ‘fans’ appeared to head towards the player.
Clips show security throwing punches and tackling fans to the ground, while Mohamed Abdelmonem can be seen guarding Salah.
The Liverpool star appeared calm throughout the ordeal as he was escorted off the field by several military guards.
Salah failed to score at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex on Sunday but set up Trezeguet for his second goal on 62 minutes.
Sierra Leone were losing the match when several fans jumped the barriers and appeared to head towards the Reds’ forward.
The game ended in sour fashion for the hosts as they were reduced to nine men, with Abdul Jarju Kabia and Tyrese Fornah both getting sent off.
The result means the Pharaohs have won their opening two World Cup qualifiers and are currently sitting at the top of Group A.
They thrashed Djibouti 6-0 at the Cairo International Stadium on Thursday, with Salah netting the opening four goals for Rui Vitória’s side.
With the international break ending, the 31-year-old’s focus will now return to the Premier League, where Liverpool are set to visit Manchester City on November 25.
The Egyptian has scored ten goals in 12 top-flight matches this season.
