Liverpool ‘working on’ Signing Brazilian Wonderkid

According to reports from Football Insider, Liverpool will look to sign Palmeiras winger Luis Guilherme in the summer transfer window. The 18-year-old is extremely highly rated over in South America and could potentially prove to be the long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah.

With Salah’s long-term future at Liverpool still under question, now is the time for the Reds to start forward-thinking in terms of the progression of the side. Today, we’re going to be taking a deeper look at Guilherme and why Liverpool would want to sign the teenager.

Who is Luis Guilherme?

Luis Guilherme is an 18-year-old Brazilian winger, currently playing for Palmeiras in the Brazilian league. The forward has already made 32 senior appearances for Palmeiras, despite his incredibly young age.

His impressive breakthrough at Palmeiras has led to him making five appearances for the Brazil Under-20 squad. Guilherme’s high potential ceiling has also launched him onto the radar of several high-profile European clubs, with Barcelona also being linked.

Guilherme is also incredibly versatile, naturally being able to play as a number ten but also as an inverted winger on the right-hand side of Palmeiras’ attack. The latter of those would likely be where his future would lie in Liverpool’s plans.

How would he fit into Liverpool’s plans?

As mentioned briefly above, he would more than likely fit into the Liverpool squad as an option at right wing. As it stands, Salah remains the only natural, senior right-winger at the club and even he could leave Anfield in the near future.

Other than Salah, there’s only 17-year-old Ben Doak and Harvey Elliott, who is more suited to playing in central midfield. Therefore, surely Liverpool have eyes on Guilherme progressing into a trustworthy option in their attack.

Transfermarkt currently values Guilherme at roughly £15 million, although any concrete move for the teenage sensation would likely cost much more than that. This transfer rumour comes just months after Real Madrid triggered 16-year-old Endrick’s £60 million release clause, which signals how costly a potential move for their next wonderkid could be.

Crunching the Numbers

Guilherme’s stats suggest just how much of a direct goal threat he can be, but transforming that threat into direct contributions has been a struggle. You can see this with the severe lack of goals and assists in his game at the moment.

However, it’s hard to ignore the direct nature of Guilherme’s play, averaging 6.23 attempted take-ons and 3.25 successful take-ons per 90 minutes. He also averages 5.80 progressive carries and 4.95 carries into the final third per 90.

His goal threat is epitomised by his 5.38 shot-creating actions per 90 minutes. Creatively, Guilherme’s is an absolute gem, too. With 2.55 key passes and 2.41 passes into the penalty area per 90, it’s clear to see why so many top European clubs see such high potential in the teenager.
