According to Greek outlet SportTime, Liverpool have scouted Olympiakos youngster Aguibou Camara in their recent Europa League outing against Fenerbahce. An array of scouts from European hotshots were in attendance to observe a host of exciting prospects. However, the midfield attacker impressed the Reds’ representative who was found gathering details on the prodigy.

The 20-year-old Guinea international progressed through the youth ranks of Lille before joining the Greek giants earlier this year during the summer window. He soon secured a starting status in the middle of the park with 10 appearances already across competitions.

Predominantly a ‘number 10’, Camara has also exhibited his adaptability down the left-hand flank. He was deployed from a slightly deeper midfield role versus Fenerbahce, more as a ‘box to box’ rather than an outright attacking playmaker. It didn’t make much of a difference though as his talent and matured display caught the eyes of the Liverpool scout. The Guinean holds a high ceiling and the Merseysiders are likely to monitor his progress over the next few months before making a transfer call.

Why Liverpool Should Keep Close Tabs On Camara

Jurgen Klopp has revolutionized Liverpool since being appointed as the Anfield chief back in the autumn of 2015. The Reds have conquered all major honours under his tutelage, but the necessity of spending and improving the current set-up has also been highlighted time and again. Both the Manchester clubs as well as Chelsea have invested significantly to regain their supremacy at the top of the standings. However, a quiet summer has raised questions over the owner’s intent and ability to maintain dominance in English football.

The Reds hold a cordial relationship with Olympiakos and the same has smoothened further following the transfer of Kostas Tsimikas just over a year ago. Camara might turn out to be another value for money recruit in the coming days – a business model that suits the club’s philosophy under FSG.

Liverpool are currently well equipped in the centre of the pitch. Skipper Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, James Milner, Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Harvey Elliott are there as first-team midfield options, but the gaffer never brought in another attacking midfielder ever since Philippe Coutinho’s controversial Barcelona move. The likes of Henderson, Milner and Thiago are already in their 30s, whereas the form and fitness concerns of Oxlade-Chamberlain and Keita might see them opt for alternatives. The profile of Camara ticks many boxes and a breakthrough season in Greece should shape his long-term future amid growing interest.
