Liverpool request NEW info on player they've wanted all summer; short on time but deal COULD happen

Liverpool are running out of time but they’ve made a new request on a player they’ve watched all summer. They might still make something happen.

TeamTalk reports that Liverpool have not given up on a transfer for Teun Koopmeiners, even this late in the window. The Reds have consistently been linked with Koopmeiners all year but the player remains in Atalanta.

Juventus have been the favourites to snap him up for some time now. They've been unable to find a deal, however, and it leaves the door open for other clubs.

Because Koopmeiners is expected to leave. The Belgian isn't training with Atalanta as a move this summer was considered a formality.

That move hasn't materialised, though, and it may leave both player and club a little desperate to get something done. Liverpool, then, have a chance to take advantage.

Liverpool target Koopmeiners

We've liked the idea of signing Koopmeiners for some time now, seeing him as an ideal arrival. He plays in midfield - an area Liverpool want to strengthen - and he has a history with Arne Slot, having played under him at AZ Alkmaar.

Though, it does appear that the Reds want a player of a different profile. A deal for Martin Zubimendi collapsed this summer, with Liverpool wanting a holding midfielder who was 'press resistant'.

Koopmeiners isn't exactly that, and we imagine Liverpool didn't make a full-on move to get him this summer because of it. They do have a few players similar to him, eliminating the need for a major transfer.

But it's possible that Liverpool decide some sort of midfield upgrade would help the squad. Especially when it's a player who already knows Slot's methods well.

Bobby Clark leaving the club, as well as Stefan Bajcetic's rumoured exit, does sort of leave room in the squad. While we won't hold our breath on this one, it's not entirely beyond the realm of possibility.
