Feyenoord’s rising star Givairo Read has made no secret of his Premier League preference, and it’s not Manchester United or Manchester City. The 18-year-old right-back has his sights firmly set on Liverpool, a club whose recent success and exciting future under Arne Slot continue to attract attention across Europe.
Liverpool’s stature as a footballing powerhouse has grown exponentially over the past decade. Under Jürgen Klopp, the Reds conquered almost every available trophy, with Premier League and Champions League titles setting the benchmark. Now, with Arne Slot at the helm, the club shows no signs of slowing down.
Slot, who took over after Klopp’s departure in May 2024, has already led Liverpool to the Carabao Cup final, while maintaining a commanding lead at the top of the Premier League. His pragmatic yet dynamic approach has revitalised the squad, even without significant transfer activity. Federico Chiesa, the club’s only senior signing under Slot, has struggled for consistent form due to fitness issues, yet Liverpool’s upward trajectory remains intact.
While Liverpool enjoy a successful season, questions linger about the right-back position. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation continues to raise concerns, with Real Madrid reportedly interested in luring the England international to Spain. If Alexander-Arnold leaves, Liverpool will need a reliable replacement — and Givairo Read might just fit the bill.

Read has already showcased his potential at Feyenoord, earning 13 league appearances and featuring in their Champions League clash against AC Milan. His versatility to operate on either flank adds further appeal. But beyond his technical abilities, Read’s heart already appears to be set on Anfield.
When asked to choose between Manchester United and Manchester City as his preferred Premier League team, Read’s response was unequivocal:
“Liverpool, for sure! Nothing else, no one else.”
Such enthusiasm rarely goes unnoticed, especially when combined with genuine potential on the pitch.
The presence of Arne Slot at Liverpool might offer the Reds an edge should they decide to pursue Read. Slot is familiar with the player’s attributes, having observed his development during his time at Feyenoord. Liverpool have shown a willingness to invest in young talents with high ceilings — and Read fits that profile perfectly.
As summer approaches, Liverpool’s transfer plans remain under wraps, but a move for Read could be a smart, long-term investment, especially with Alexander-Arnold’s future uncertain. One thing is clear: if Liverpool come calling, they won’t need to convince the young Dutchman.
