Monitoring Rodrygo’s Situation at Real Madrid

Rodrygo’s position at Real Madrid is under increasing scrutiny as the 24-year-old forward faces limited game time in the early stages of the season. The Brazilian, who arrived from Santos in 2019 as a teenager, has enjoyed moments of real prominence at the Bernabéu, contributing 68 goals in 270 appearances. Yet, despite his status, he remained on the bench for Madrid’s opening La Liga fixture against Osasuna, with Kylian Mbappé securing the winner in a 1-0 victory.

Manager Xabi Alonso has publicly insisted that “nothing is going on” and that Rodrygo remains part of his plans. However, his agent has taken active steps to explore the market, arriving in London to speak with potential suitors.

Liverpool and Arsenal meetings scheduled

Talks with Liverpool and Arsenal are being lined up, with both Premier League clubs considering Rodrygo as a summer option. For Liverpool, discussions are expected with super-agent Pini Zahavi, who has been central to numerous high-profile transfers in recent years. The Anfield hierarchy are weighing Rodrygo as a possible attacking addition depending on how their summer recruitment unfolds.

Arsenal’s stance had been that any move for the forward would depend on raising funds through player sales. Yet the long-term injury sustained by Kai Havertz may accelerate their activity, opening the door to an approach for Rodrygo earlier than planned.

Isak remains in focus for top clubs

Liverpool and Arsenal’s monitoring of Rodrygo is also influenced by the situation of Alexander Isak. The Newcastle United striker is widely admired across Europe and has been on the radar of both clubs. If Isak remains at St James’ Park this summer, Rodrygo is seen as a strong alternative.

The Swedish international enjoyed an outstanding campaign last season, showcasing his versatility across the front line. His form has made him a central figure in Newcastle’s project, meaning any departure would demand a substantial fee and require difficult negotiations.

Madrid’s stance on a possible transfer

Real Madrid are understood to be open to selling Rodrygo if a suitable offer arrives. Valuations of around €100 million have been discussed, reflecting both his long-term contract and standing within the squad. Despite Alonso’s public comments, Rodrygo’s reduced involvement during the Club World Cup — featuring for just 93 minutes across six matches — underlines his uncertain status in the Spanish capital.

While earlier reports linked Manchester City with potential interest, current indications suggest they are not pursuing him. That leaves Liverpool and Arsenal as the leading candidates should Madrid sanction a sale.

The coming weeks are set to be decisive, with Zahavi expected to continue talks in England. Both Liverpool and Arsenal face strategic decisions in attack, and whether they move for Isak or turn towards Rodrygo could shape their seasons to come.
