If a report from Foot Mercato is believed to be true, Liverpool are keeping close eyes on Elye Wahi for quite some time. But they are not alone in the hunt as the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have also entered the race along with the long-term admirers Manchester City and Juventus.

Ligue 1 has produced a plethora of talents in recent years and the 20-year-old Montpellier sensation is certainly one of them after making his presence known with a 10-goal season. He progressed through the academy ranks of La Paillade before breaking into their senior side back in December 2020. His minutes increased during the past couple of years as he is now irreplaceable in the attacking third.

With 7 goals already in 18 league games, Wahi is expected to break the tally of his 2021-22 campaign. He is contracted until the summer of 2025 and Montpellier, therefore, are in no rush to sanction his transfer. His valuation is tipped to be in the region of £26m and the same could increase with time if he keeps improving his game over the next few months.

Liverpool have been heavily criticized for lack of investment while on top. Their renowned figures are on a decline and the owners must sort this out having lost the ground already against the likes of Arsenal and the Manchester clubs. Newcastle United are a resurgent force following the Saudi-led takeover and the Reds must perform an overhaul to restore their lost status.

Elye Wahi

The Reds are getting outplayed in the middle of the park week in and week out. Jurgen Klopp must be looking for reinforcements to replace their ageing and injury-prone individuals, but, at the same time, must address the shortcomings across the pitch from defence to attack.

Why Liverpool Should Get Wahi

Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo have been roped in to reform the frontline. While Diaz is still recovering from a long-term injury problem, Nunez and Gakpo are yet to attune to the aggression and demands of the English game. Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino have struggled to stay fit, also the exit of Sadio Mane has weakened them high up the pitch. Mohamed Salah has not done enough since penning a new deal and his current form is a stumbling block to rebuilding momentum in Premier League.

Firmino, meanwhile, would be a sporadic option even if he signs a new deal to extend his stay beyond this summer. Nunez has often been deployed from the left by the German chief and a player of Wahi’s potential could eventually secure the ‘number 9’ status in the long run if a transfer takes place in the forthcoming future.
