Goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool the dream start in this Round of 16 first leg clash, but Real Madrid went on to score five goals without reply before the full-time whistle.

Vinicius Junior and Karim Benzema both helped themselves to two goals each, while Eder Militao also got himself on the scoresheet during the rout.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry said it’s “the end of an era” for Liverpool after the Merseyside outfit conceded five goals at home in European competition for the first time ever.

While Liverpool aren’t officially out of this season’s Champions League just yet, it will take a minor miracle for Jurgen Klopp’s side to overturn a three-goal deficit at the Bernabeu next month.

Carragher, like every other Liverpool fan, couldn’t believe his luck after watching the opening 15 minutes of the match while eating his dinner.

But the former Liverpool defender was a broken man midway through the second half as Real Madrid produced a magnificent team performance to turn the game on its head.

Unfortunately for Carragher it seems the vast majority of football fans are thoroughly enjoying the footage of the pundit suffering as the match unfolded.

Can Liverpool turn their season around?

Liverpool appeared to be heading in the right direction again following back-to-back defeats against Brighton and Wolves.

Two 2-0 victories over Everton and Newcastle United in the space of five days set Liverpool up perfectly for their Champions League Round of 16 first leg clash against Real Madrid.

But Klopp’s players crumbled after allowing the Spanish giants back into the contest and will now need to pick themselves back off the floor in time for Saturday’s trip to Crystal Palace.

Currently eighth in the Premier League table, 19 points behind leaders Arsenal and seven behind fourth-placed Tottenham, there’s a risk the wheels are about to fall off completely on Liverpool’s season.
