Jurgen Klopp has provided a positive update on his absent stars along with an insight into Stefan Bajcetic’s long-awaited comeback.

Long-term issues for Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip look set to continue for the remainder of the campaign, while there has been progress in Ben Doak’s recovery.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

The defender injured his knee ligament in the win over Burnley two months ago.

Now back in training, Alexander-Arnold is in contention to face Atalanta.

“It’s always a challenge trying to reintegrate the guys,” Klopp said.

“With the quality they have it should be easier, and we will use them in the next days and weeks, but what it means for tomorrow I didn’t make a decision yet.”

Potential return date: April 11 vs Atalanta or April 14 vs Crystal Palace

Alisson Becker

Alisson has been hard at work with Liverpool’s goalkeeping coaches, leading to Klopp admitting last week that he was not fully abreast of his current fitness condition.

But the latest update from the Reds boss has labelled his No1 as “on the way back” after overcoming a hamstring injury.

Diogo Jota

Klopp has suggested that the Portuguese forward will be at least in his thoughts to place on Thursday night after nearly two months out with a knee injury.

“Obviously we didn’t rush it with the boys,” Klopp said on Wednesday.

“You can but we didn’t, that means they did a lot of training by themselves, especially Diogo and Trent, [they] worked as a group for two or three weeks really properly training. So, [they] looked very good yesterday, to be honest.”

Having only made his comeback to full training in recent days, there is every chance Jota is kept back to play on the weekend depending on Liverpool’s feeling with his fitness.

Liverpool hope Bajcetic has now rejoined training with the senior squad after he spent last week with the Under-21s.

“Stefan is different a little bit because he was out for much longer, but he is now training with us for longer as well,” said Klopp.

“But I think after the long spell he had without playing football it makes sense that we might give him a game at U21s and then let’s see how he deals with that.”

Ben Doak

Teenage winger Doak picked up a knee injury earlier this season which required surgery.

However, he has recently posted images of himself training on the grass in a big step towards his recovery.

Potential return date: Summer 2024

Joel Matip

Matip has likely played his last game for Liverpool after suffering a serious knee injury in December.

Klopp admitted last week that the season will “not be long enough” for him to return in time, and his contract expires in the summer.
