Liverpool handed major boost as Alexander-Arnold, Alisson, Jota and Bajcetic return to training | OneFootball

Liverpool have been handed a major boost ahead of the Premier League run-in with the return of several key players to team training.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota and Stefan Bajcetic participated in Tuesday’s session at Kirkby.

Vice-captain Alexander-Arnold sustained a knee injury in early February and has been absent from the squad since then.

Goalkeeper Alisson has missed the last 13 matches across all competitions after tearing his hamstring during a training session.

Jota has been sidelined for the past two months due to a knee injury he picked up in a match against Brentford.

His return will be crucial for the Reds ahead of key fixtures. He has netted 14 goals this term and will look to add more to that tally on the run-in.

Bajcetic has been building his fitness levels with the under-21s squad, having been out of action since September.

The return of these players has provided a much-needed morale boost for Liverpool following the frustration of their recent 2-2 draw against Manchester United.

Jurgen Klopp’s side needed a win to stay top of the Premier League table but fell short due to their profligacy in front of goal.

Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final first leg against Atalanta may come too soon for the quartet.

However, the home league clash against Crystal Palace on Sunday is deemed more realistic for their return to action.

In other news, the head of recovery and performance Andreas Schlumberger, is set to depart the club at the end of the season.

The 57-year-old has been part of the backroom staff since December 2020 but will return to his native Germany as Klopp’s reign as manager ends.

Despite being under contract until 2025, Schlumberger has reached an agreement with the club to conclude his tenure in May.
