Liverpool challenge reduced ticket allocation ahead of Man City game at Etihad | OneFootball

Liverpool have confirmed that their ticket allocation for the league game against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium has been reduced.

It was reported earlier this month that the Reds will have 600 fewer seats for the match in April.

Visiting clubs are due 3,000 tickets, but Liverpool’s ticket allocation has been cut by 20%.

Incidents of crowd trouble at previous fixtures between the Reds and Man City influenced the decision.

Liverpool have challenged it after Greater Manchester Police, the local Ground Safety Advisory Group and Man City reached an agreement.

The Merseyside club have contacted the Premier League and defending champions in a bid to overturn the decision.

Liverpool claim they are committed to having as many supporters as possible in stadiums for away league fixtures.

They are fighting for a top-four finish and will need all the help they can get from their fans on April 1.

Liverpool received around 2,900 tickets when they played Man City at the Etihad in April last season.

They got 5,432 tickets when both clubs met in the Carabao Cup fourth-round tie in December.

Sadly, a teenage Man City fan was struck by a pint cup full of coins thrown by Reds fans during the game.

That incident and similar cases have forced City and safety officials to act.

Liverpool’s league allocation at the Etihad was more than 3,000 before the COVID-19 pandemic struck.

Man City are second in the Premier League after 27 games, with eight points between them and leaders Arsenal.

However, they have a game in hand and will be keen to pick up all three points against Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are sixth, seven points off the last Champions League spot.

They have two games in hand and will give their all against Man City, but they could be forced to do so with 600 fewer fans.
