Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara continues to struggle with injury.

Thiago would appear to be no closer to returning to the Liverpool team after Jurgen Klopp failed to provide an update on his fitness ahead of Saturday's trip to Brighton.

The Spanish international midfielder has still only played 135 minutes for the Reds since his much-celebrated transfer from Bayern Munich in the summer, playing in the second half of the 2-0 win at Chelsea and for the full 90 minutes of the 2-2 Merseyside derby draw with Everton.

In between those matches the 29-year-old tested positive for Covid-19, and then at the end of the Everton game he was caught by a studs-up challenge from Richarlison for which the Brazilian was set off.

But when the Liverpool boss was asked to provide updates on the fitness of both Thiago and Jordan Henderson at his press conference on Friday, he only spoke about his captain.

"Hendo trained yesterday in parts of team training and he had an individual session," he said.

"We have to see. The other players who played are in recovery. We have to make late decisions - we have to wait on the medical department.

"If you asked me my line-up now, I couldn't tell you. We have to make late decisions. There are 25 or so hours to go."
