Thiago Set to Depart Liverpool Alongside Klopp

As Jurgen Klopp’s era at Liverpool approaches, Thiago Alcantara appears set to follow his manager out the exit door, with a move to Saudi Arabia increasingly likely. This significant development has been detailed by TEAMTalk, providing insights into what might be next for the Spanish midfielder.

Frequent Injuries Mark Thiago’s Liverpool Tenure

Since his arrival from Bayern Munich in 2020, Thiago’s time at Liverpool has been significantly hampered by injuries. Despite the high expectations accompanying his signing, Thiago has only managed 98 appearances for the Reds over three seasons. This season, his on-pitch contributions have been minimal. He played just 12 minutes in a single appearance against Arsenal in February, after which a muscle injury sidelined him.

No New Contract on the Horizon

With his contract expiring this summer and ongoing fitness concerns, Liverpool has not planned a contract extension for Thiago. According to TEAMTalk, the midfielder is actively looking for a new club, with his agent facilitating the move. Although there has been interest from Italian powerhouses Inter Milan and Juventus, Thiago’s next chapter will likely unfold in the Saudi Pro League, which promises a less demanding pace suitable for his situation.

Saudi Arabia Likely Next Destination

Pete O’Rourke, speaking on the Inside Track podcast, highlighted the suitability of the Saudi Pro League for Thiago, noting its slower pace as a key attraction: “A return to Spain – where Thiago began his professional career with Barcelona – is a possibility, but the slower pace of the Saudi Pro League makes it a more suitable landing spot.” O’Rourke also downplayed the potential for a move to Italy, citing Thiago’s patchy injury record as a deterrent for top European clubs.

Liverpool’s Managerial Search Continues

As Thiago prepares for his exit, Liverpool’s search for a new manager intensifies. The club has identified Ruben Amorim from Sporting Lisbon as the top candidate to succeed Klopp, mainly after Xabi Alonso opted to continue with Bayer Leverkusen despite an offer from Liverpool. This transition period is crucial as Liverpool looks to rebuild and move forward from the Klopp era.

Thiago’s imminent departure from Liverpool marks the end of a challenging stint at Anfield, dominated more by his time off the pitch than on it. As the club looks towards a new managerial appointment, the reshaping of the squad will also reflect this new chapter.
