Liverpool manager Matt Beard says that he is looking forward to a tactical battle against Brighton & Hove Albion this weekend.

The Reds make the long trip to Broadfield Stadium in Crawley to face The Seagulls in their latest Barclays Women’s Super League match.

Brighton & Hove Albion are currently under the leadership of interim head coach Mikey Harris after they sacked former boss Melissa Phillips last month. When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Liverpool manager Beard highlighted the changes that Harris has implemented in the Brighton & Hove Albion team and he is looking forward to a good tactical battle this weekend.

“Structurally, there have obviously been a few changes in the way that they’re building and playing,” Beard said. “Out of possession, they’re a lot more organised in terms of not being as high-risk with their press as they were under Mel [Phillips].

“We need to be patient on Sunday when we have the ball because structurally, they build really well and defensively, they’re organised.

“In such a short space of time, I think he has done a fantastic job and tactically, it’s going to be a good challenge for us on Sunday.”

Since the season resumed after the winter break, Liverpool have recorded a real mix of results. Despite some inconsistency, Beard still sees the positives in those results.

He said “If we look at the last month, we had the two defeats against Arsenal and Manchester City then we’ve had the two positive results in the FA Cup and a draw against Tottenham. It has been an up and down month but we’ve still had three positive results out of five games. We take the rough with the smooth.”

Liverpool’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Brighton & Hove Albion kicks-off at 12pm on Sunday afternoon.
